🧰 DM Toolbox D&D Side Quest Generator

"A good DM improvises. A great DM has a list."

A job for the party in one roll: the client, the place, the catch, the twist, the deadline, the pay, and a fight if it comes to that.

πŸ“œ Side Quest

A job for the party in one roll: who's asking and why, where it happens and what's there, where to start, what's in the way, the twist, what happens if the party fails, the deadline, the pay, and sometimes a fight to go with it.

The quest tables are the Gazette's own. Rewards are a house rule that grows with the party's level and size (the SRD has no table for them). The foe comes from the SRD 5.1 monsters, chosen to suit the place and rated like the Encounter tab, and πŸ‘Ή Open in Encounter takes it there to adjust or send to initiative.
πŸ““ Save to Notebook files it in the campaign notebook as an open quest, where you mark it done or failed and link it to your session log.
The address bar holds the quest, so πŸ”— Copy Link shares it. A new level or party size keeps the same quest and rescales the reward and the foe; a new job keeps the same quest giver.

How the Side Quest Generator works

Set the party's level and size, pick a kind of job or leave it on 🎲, and roll. You get who's asking and why, where it happens and what's there, where to start, what's in the way, the twist, what happens if the party fails, the deadline, and the pay. The reward is a house rule that grows with the party's level and size. Some jobs come with a fight: the foes are SRD 5.1 monsters that suit the place, rated the same way as the Encounter Builder. A new level or party size keeps the quest and rescales the pay and the fight.

Fights go to the Encounter Builder and the Initiative Tracker, handouts to the Handout Maker, and saved quests to the Campaign Notebook. The party size and level start from the Party tab, and every town from the Town Generator comes with a quest of its own.
