Difficulty uses the XP Budget per Character table from the System Reference Document 5.2 (CC-BY 4.0): each character adds their level's Low, Moderate, and High numbers, and the monsters' XP is spent against them. The warnings under the meter are the Gazette's advice. Monsters and their CR, XP, AC, HP, and Dex come from the System Reference Document 5.1 (CC-BY 4.0).
Rolled encounters never use a monster above the party's level and stop at two creatures per character. Most rolls keep to one group of foes that belong together (goblins with their wolves, a cult with its imps), and the habitat picker keeps the leader to monsters that live there. Every fight gets a scene: where it happens, what the foes are doing, who notices whom, distance, light, the ground, a leader, tactics, morale, a price to parley, and sometimes a twist. Hazard DCs and damage follow the party's level (damage from the SRD 5.1 Damage Severity by Level table); the habitats, groups, and scenes are the Gazette's own. 🎲 New Scene redraws it without touching the monsters. The address bar holds the party and the monsters, so πŸ”— Copy Link shares the fight. Send to Initiative rolls each monster's initiative with its Dex modifier.

        How the Encounter Builder works

Enter the party by level (characters of different levels are fine), then search the 334 SRD 5.1 monsters by name, challenge rating, and type and add them. The meter spends the monsters' XP against the party's budget from the SRD 5.2 XP Budget per Character table, so you can see whether the fight is Low, Moderate, or High, with warnings when the fight looks lopsided. To roll a fight instead, pick the difficulty, a monster type, where it happens, and a group of foes, like goblins with their wolves or a cult with its imps. Click a monster's name for its full stat block.

        Works with

Monsters come from the Bestiary, homebrew ones from the Monster Maker, and the party from the Party tab. Fights go on to the Initiative Tracker, and the Dungeon Generator and Side Quest Generator open their fights here.
